That little groundhog was right - Spring is coming sooner than we thought! With temperatures in the upper 60’s and low 70’s becoming a regular occurrence, the team here at Kathy G. & Company is getting super-amped for Spring Wedding Season. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we’ve got some pretty cool stuff going on in February that we’d love to tell you about.

THIS MONTHS RECIPE

And we’ve got one more wintertime recipe to pass along before we refocus on the sunshine and long warmer days that March and April promise.

It’s Puttanesca Sauce: A spicy and tangy Italian sauce with an aroma that’s second to none.  Perfect over pasta or fish, we hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing your feedback on our facebook page.

WEDDINGS
There are weddings and then there are WEDDINGS!  Kathy G. & Company kicked off the month by executing the design and styling the food for Abby & Ben’s gorgeous gala on February 5th at the Birmingham Country Club.  Attended by more than 600 guests, the theme for the evening’s design was “Sophisticated Peacock” with a color scheme that included rich tones of burgundy, blue and purple.  Kathy G and Andy Hopper worked hand in hand with wedding planner Meghan Cease of M Elizabeth Events and lighting specialist Andy Tolar of Design Productions to create a spectacular event will surely prove to be one of 2011’s most memorable.  Congratulations Abby & Ben!!!

PARKLANE
On February 19th, Mountain Brook had a little “Saturday Night Fever” as the Pickwick Club held an event for 120 people at Park Lane.  The theme for the gathering was “Dance Club” and from all reports, there was some serious boogie down dancing goin’ on!  So as not to weigh down the “dancing machines” on hand, the menu consisted of mostly Hors D’oeuvres -  With many of the selections being the best our kitchen has to offer.  Mini Pitas with Smoked Turkey and Raspberry Honey Mustard, Sweet Potato Beignets with Jack Daniels Dipping Sauce, Grilled Chicken Rollups with Chipotle Mayo, and Hot Spinach/Gruyere Dip with Crackers impressed our “Solid Gold Dancers” in attendance as they Hustled, Twisted, and Tripped the Light Fantastic all night long!

AROUND TOWN
On Sunday, February 20th, Kathy G. & Company rounded up the troops and headed over to the Embassy Suites in Hoover for the Perfect Wedding Guide’s Bridal Market.  With more than 50 vendors in attendance, hundreds of 2011 brides flocked to the affair – Meeting, greeting, and conversing with Birmingham’s most elite wedding professionals.  Our entire team was on hand and we met with countless newly engaged or about-to-be-engaged women – One more gorgeous than the next.  With guest speakers, a runway fashion show, and the best of the best in the biz all on hand, it was a most fabulous bridal show and one we’ll definitely be attending again next year!!!

ON THE ROAD
This weekend upcoming, the Kathy G. gang is heading down to “Roll Tide Territory” to cater Leighton and Caroline’s wedding.  Team trips to Tuscaloosa are always fun, but this one is particularly exciting because there will be over 500 guests at the affair and it will take place at a private residence.  Caroline picked out the menu wanting traditional favorites that have mass appeal. With that in mind, Shrimp Cakes with Remoulade Dipping Sauce, Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Chive Aioli, Mini "Sliders" with Grilled Red Onions & Pickle, Mini BLT's with Roma Tomato, Arugula & Apple-Smoked Bacon, and Kathy G’s famous Grits Bar will prove to be wonderful selections.

GARDENS CAFE
If there’s one place in all of Birmingham that’s really enjoyed the recent run of warm weather, it’s the Botanical Gardens. Daffodils, Crocuses, and Forsythia are all beginning to show blooms while many other early spring flowers are sprouting buds like crazy.  If you’ve always thought the Botanical Gardens was a daytrip for June or July, you‘d be pleasantly surprised by what the Garden’s has to offer in late February and March.  And while you’re there, might we suggest you pop in for lunch at the Garden’s Café.  We’re open Tuesday through Saturday serving a delicious lunch menu from 11:00AM ‘til 2:00PM.

Also, if you’re a bride looking for a venue for your 2011 wedding, we still have a few choice dates available.  But don’t wait any longer as they’re bound to get snapped up.  Please call Tamara Archer at (205) 871-1000 to schedule a site visit and consultation soon!

DESIGN
On Saturday, February 5th, our friends at Bromberg’s in Mountain Brook held a special wedding planning event.  “Breakfast at Bromberg’s” was a wonderful time for everyone at Kathy G Designs as we got to meet with plenty of newly engaged girls and our own Andy Hopper participated in the “2011 Wedding Trends Tablescape Contest” along with several of the top designers in Alabama. Though we didn’t win, we’re extremely proud of Andy and the tablescape he created.  To read more and see pics of Andy’s design, please click here.
