In like a lion and out like a lamb…. That’s what they say about March.   Only thing is, we’ve had such an incredibly mild winter, March was a lamb from the day it started.  That’s okay by us though, because who doesn’t love springtime in Alabama?

We’ve got a wonderful recipe for you this month – A dish that’s perfect with a nice glass of wine and great company.  Shrimp with Herbes de Provence and Roasted Garlic was something we served up at Bromberg’s French Week a few years ago, but we thought we’d bring it back this month because this newsletter now goes out to thousands of Kathy G & Company friends – Many of whom have only been with us for a year or less.   For this delicious shrimp recipe, please click here.

After several weeks of out with the old and in with the new along with lots of cleaning and painting, the brand new and totally remodeled Gardens Cafe opened on February 23 with a special “Preview Event” that was attended by more than 60 friends and wedding professionals – And even Birmingham’s former mayor, Dr. Bernard Kincaid. The Cafe has new floors, gorgeous new light fixtures, new tables and chiavari chairs, new paint on the walls, and best of all a new modern attitude.  If you’re a bride-to-be or know of a young couple who haven’t yet secured a date for their 2012 wedding, then give Kathy G event coordinator Tamara Archer a call at 205-871-1000 and arrange for a visit to this stunning new-look venue… The remodeled Gardens Cafe is truly a site to see!  To see pics of the amazing new space, please click here.

Kathy G was a proud sponsor of what is becoming an incredible annual event in the Magic City, Birmingham Fashion Week.  Benefitting both Camp Smile-A-Mile, a year-round program for children in Alabama with cancer, along with Alabama Forever, an organization that was founded to help Alabama communities in need, BFW ran from February 8th thru the 12th with a most exciting “Bridal Day” on Saturday, the 11th.  Many thanks to the events’ founder, Heidi Elnora, and her team for inviting the Kathy G team to take part in such a first class celebration of all things fashion.  To see photos of KG Designs floral and décor from the Fashion Week “kick off party” at Gus Mayer please click here.

With Park Lane decked out in gorgeous décor by Andy Hopper and the team at KG Designs, the girls of the Fandango and Cha Cha Dance Clubs got together on February 11th for a night to remember at their 2012 Social.  More than 150 guests dined on Pitas with Smoked Turkey & Raspberry Honey Mustard, Mini BLTs with Apple Smoked Bacon & Rémoulade, and a SHRIMP & GRITS STATION with Sautéed Fresh Gulf Shrimp with Tomatoes, Garlic, White Wine, & Butter over Creamy White Cheddar Cheese Grits.   After the delicious meal, the guests danced the night away under gorgeous red, white and pink silks.  It was a fun and festive evening and we hope to host the dance clubs again at their 2013 Social!!!

On Saturday, February 11th, both the catering and design teams headed Southwest – almost all the way to Mississippi – in helping make Ashleigh and DJ’s wedding dreams come true.  The Butler, Alabama event was first class all the way with 300 guests enjoying a wide variety of passed hors d’ouevres upon arrival, a chef-attended Pasta Bar and an incredible main buffet that included Kathy G’s famous Flash-Fried Shrimp Cakes, Mini BLTs, Roast Beef with Horseradish, and Honey Ham on White Cheddar Biscuits.  It was an amazing night and we’re so happy this gorgeous couple called on Kathy G for their wedding!

On February 17th, America’s most beloved comedian, Bill Cosby, brought his incredible act to Birmingham, Alabama’s Miles College for two shows in one night.  He and host, actress Robin Givens came to town in order to help raise funds for Miles College Institutional Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarship funding to over 400 students annually.  After the laughs, more than 250 guests were invited to a VIP Party at the Alabama Theater where a variety of delectable crostinis and other finger foods were served.

The Beaux Arts Krewe Ball - benefiting the Birmingham Museum of Art - was held February 17th at Boutwell Auditorium.  Almost 1,200 revelers mixed and mingled until the wee hours of the morning with King Toliver Robert Bentley III and Queen Madelyn Fletcher Hereford reigning over the festive ball.  Honey Ham on Rosemary Rolls with Raspberry Honey Mayo, Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard, and assorted sandwiches were offered to guests as they danced, sang and partied all night long…  Laisse le bon temps rouler!

The Kathy G team had wanted to take part in the ArtBLINK fundraising gala for a very long time and we were SO VERY excited when we were called on to cater the 2012 event!  What makes the event so exciting is that 20 artists from Alabama had 90 minutes to produce a piece of artwork which was then auctioned off to on the spot with proceeds going towards research and patient services at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer.  More than 500 guests dined on Herb-Crusted & Grilled Beef Tenderloin with a Port Wine Reduction served over Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes with Asparagus Tips, Soy Ginger-Glazed Salmon over Confetti Asian Slaw with Citrus Ginger Vinaigrette, Soy Ginger Thai Flank Steak topped with Wasabi Crème in Crispy Phyllo Shells, and Flash-Fried Creole Shrimp Cakes with Rémoulade… But the real news is that nearly $1.5 Million was raised to fight cancer.
